CLINTON (WATE) - After months of controversy and even some last minute delays Monday, the words "In God We Trust" will soon grace all entrances of the Anderson County Courthouse.

Crews encountered many delays, one of which was a drilling issue. While drilling holes, the drill bits were being damaged.

Residents like Lynn Byrge say it's about time the signs are installed.

"It also tells me when you walk in that courthouse for any kind of business, you should be treated fairly and with respect," Byrge said.

The community raised nearly $5,000 to pay for the signs.

"Anyone that donated $5 is just as important as someone who donated $1,000," added Byrge.

County leaders say the idea to put "In God We Trust" above each of the four doors was brought to them by the community, but it required a final say from commissioners.

"I believe everybody has the right to their own opinion, but if they would actually take the time to read the word and just look into it instead of looking into other things," said Anderson County resident John Bushey.

If all goes as planned, the community will hold a celebration outside of the courthouse Tuesday morning beginning at 10 a.m.
