North Knox neighborhood to be sprayed for mosquitoes

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - An area of North Knoxville will be sprayed for mosquitoes Thursday and again next month.

The decision to spray neighborhoods there comes after the Knox County Health Department found a positive lab report of West Nile Virus. The positive test came from a mosquito pool in the Fourth Avenue area near Interstate 275.

The department will spray for mosquitoes on Thursday, July 25, between 9 p.m. and midnight, weather permitting. A follow-up spraying will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 8.

Posted signs in the affected area are used to alert residents and ask them to stay inside during spraying. Pets should be kept inside or in the backyard.

The spray area includes:

  • Cooper Street north of West Fifth Avenue
  • West Fifth Avenue from Cooper Street to Boyd Street
  • West Fourth Avenue; Elm Street
  • Marion Street
  • Dameron Avenue
  • Hatton Avenue
  • Burgess Avenue
  • Baxter Avenue from Elm Street to Wray Street
  • Lee Street
  • Bernard Avenue

The department says Centers for Disease Control and Prevention protocol will be followed for the spraying.
