SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A Sevier County mother was found guilty this week of trying to set her  baby on fire.

Becky Eury was convicted of attempted aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect, and burning personal property.

Investigators say Eury strapped her five week old baby into a car seat on Mother's Day weekend of 2010. She then set the seat on fire.

The child was unharmed and is now three-years-old.

Eury's conviction did not come to a surprise to her ex-husband Ivan Eury.

He says it has been a long wait to see justice happen.

"I was relieved," said Eury. "I didn't want to see her get nothing."

The Eury's were married for two years before she was arrested.

Ivan was actually there the day Becky tried to set their baby on fire.

He says he does not know what caused her to snap. He's worried about the day when he has to explain to his two boys, ages six and three, about what their mother did.

"I'm going to be truthful with them," he said. "It's going to be like reliving this all over again. This is really, really hard."

Eury already has sole custody of his two children and is not sure if he will allow them to have any contact with their mother.

"We'll probably never understand," said Eury. "I would like to think if she did want out all she would had to do was say I'm leaving. I would have left it at that."

Eury says he is ready for his life to move forward.

Becky Eury will be sentenced on September 5. She faces up to 14 years in prison.
