Telethon raises $125,000 for Mobile Meals

Posted: Updated:

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - East Tennesseans raised $125,027 on Monday for Mobile Meals, the local non-profit organization that provides hot meals to homebound seniors.

Some qualifying seniors were put on a waiting list for the first time earlier this year when Mobile Meals ran short on funds.

After receiving temporary help from the Knox County Commission the waiting list was ended, but that money might not last much longer.

For that reason the Knox County Mayor's Office organized a telethon with local TV and radio stations to raise funds for the organization.

From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, 6 News broadcasted live at West Town Mall to encourage viewers to support Mobile Meals by making donations.

Just $3.15 is enough to provide one hot nutritious meal for a senior that is delivered by a friendly face.

The money raised Monday will provide 39,691 meals.
