Former CAK QB High heading to Tennessee Tech

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - State record-setting quarterback Charlie High has decided to leave Tennessee and play at Tennessee Tech starting this season.

High was offered preferred walk-on status with the Vols, but on Friday informed the Tennessee coaching staff of his intention to enroll at Tech.

He will be with the Golden Eagles when players report next Friday.

High set a slew of state passing records as a quarterback at Christian Academy of Knoxville and in the process he helped lead the Warriors to back-to-back state titles.

He confirmed his decision with WATE 6 Sports on Friday.

"I love football and this is a better opportunity to play and play earlier," High said. "The Tennessee coaches wished me luck but wanted me to stay."

High also pointed out that he is undefeated (2-0) on Tennessee Tech's home field-- CAK won state titles there in 2011 and 2012.
