KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Melissa Cox shared some back-to-school savings tips Monday on Good Morning Tennessee.

Cox, who blogs under the name Frugalissa, appears each week to share her finds of the week.

This week, she shared a number of tips that allow shoppers to buy back-to-school items for only pennies.

Check the ads to find best deals.  Look at drugstores like CVS and Walgreens, as they have great deals on school supplies.

Remember Target and Walmart price match. There is no reason to run around town getting your school supplies. Take the ads and shop at one or two stores.

Overbuy now so it lasts you through the next school year. Teachers will likely need more supplies in December. Donate what you don't need or use especially if it is free or cheap.

When getting deals on school supplies, use the reward cards and programs. You can buy printer paper, printer supplies, calculators, or other office supplies throughout the year on your rewards.

A special sale involving OfficeMax's "MaxPerks Rewards" program allows several items to be purchased for only pennies. Backpacks, multipurpose paper and filler paper are $0.01 each after using MaxPerks Rewards. Metal compasses and plastic protractors are $0.05 using MaxPerks Rewards.
