UT football releases preseason depth chart

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Justin Worley and Nathan Peterman will slug it out for the starting quarterback job and freshman running back Alden Hill's spring football performance has moved him into a key back-up role on the Tennessee football team.

Those are the offensive highlights as new head coach Butch Jones released his preseason depth chart on Tuesday.

Worley and Peterman will compete to take over at quarterback after Tyler Bray left school early for the NFL.

Worley has more game experience, but Peterman apparently made enough impact in spring practice to have Jones bracket both quarterbacks as even heading into preseason practice.

The Vols open camp on Friday.

Senior Rajion Neal is listed as the No. 1 running back, with Hill listed at No. 2.

Hill rushed for 101 yards on 18 carries in the spring game.

Senior Marlin Lane is the Vols second most productive returning rusher. He gained 658 yards in 2012, but was held out of some spring practices for what Jones called disciplinary reasons.

He did not play in the spring game.

On defense, the Vols return to a 4-3 alignment-- with Jacques Smith, Daniel McCullers, Daniel Hood and Marlin Walls listed as No. 1 players on the defensive line.
