MORRISTOWN (WATE) - One person was transported to the hospital Thursday evening after a fire destroyed a Hamblen County apartment building.

Morristown Fire Department officials say a family, including some small children, escaped the blaze on North Economy Road by jumping from a third story window.

Officials say the family only had minor injuries, and the person transported to the area hospital is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Five families occupying four of the building's units were all accounted for. Seven people were treated for minor injuries and smoke inhalation.

Four of the units were fully involved upon firefighters' arrival.

The Red Cross provided aid to victims on the scene.

A shelter has been set up at First Presbyterian Church in Morristown for the more than 20 people displaced by the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
