CHURCH HILL (WATE) - A child welfare check leads deputies to arrest two people for drug charges.

According to the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office, investigators received a tip that children were being exposed to drugs at a home located in the 2100 block of Isaac Avenue on Tuesday in Church Hill.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered numerous items of drug paraphernalia including smoking pipes, bongs, syringes, snort straws, gram baggies and pill crushes.

Christopher David Hixon, 22, and Tina Marie Gilbert, 34, now face several drug charges including possession of schedule III controlled substances, maintaining a dwelling where narcotics are housed or sold and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They are both currently being held in the Hawkins County Jail.

Deputies also identified an additional female who was visiting the home as Jodi Ward. Ward has outstanding warrants in Sullivan County and was transferred into the custody of the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.

At the time of the arrest, Hixon and Gilbert told deputies that the children who normally live at the house were staying with a relative. The Department of Children's Services has launched their own investigating into their welfare.
