PIKEVILLE (AP) - A state inmate has bolted into the woods near the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex.

Tennessee Department of Correction spokeswoman Dorinda Carter said 32-year-old Jeffery Lynn Carter was operating a tractor at the prison farm when he jumped from the machine and ran into some woods at about 7 p.m. Sunday.

Jeffery Carter is a minimum-custody trusty who is serving a 21-year sentence on aggravated robbery and attempted armed robbery from Davidson County. His sentence was set to expire in 2018.

The search continued Monday and authorities believed Carter was contained in the woods.

He is a white male; 5 feet-8 inches tall, about 165 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Tips should be phoned to the Department of Correction at (615) 741-7144.
