KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police on the ground and Knox County sheriff's officers in a helicopter searched Wednesday for a suspect in an attack on a woman in Ijams Nature Center.

A 24-year-old woman told police she had been sexually assaulted by a male while visiting the nature center with her two-year-old daughter. She also said the attacker cut her shirt with a knife. Investigators believe it happened around 3 p.m.

The attacker then ran off into the woods at the nature center on Island Home Avenue.

The woman was transported to UT Medical Center for non-emergency treatment and observation.

Police are looking for a white man described as being 20 to 30 years of age, average build, with a goatee. The suspect also has a distinctive scar through his left eyebrow.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark blue hoodie over a white T-shirt, dark blue jeans, and a beanie.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Knoxville Police Department at (865) 215-7212.
