SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - Sevierville police officers are asking the public to help one of their own who is suffering from a rare disease.

Officer Ben Headrick was diagnosed in July with a dissecting tissue and vein disorder that is affecting his entire vascular system.

Sevierville police say he has had several major operations and his condition is dire.

Police also relayed that his doctors are amazed that Headrick has made it through these past few days.

A local blood drive is being held in his honor at the Sevierville Civic Center on August 21 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Donations will be accepted at the site.

Headrick's family says they are thankful for the communities support and they ask people to keep praying.

Here are ways to donate:

  • Make checks payable to Michele Headrick
  • Mail or deliver donations to 300 Gary Wade Blvd., Sevierville, TN 37862
  • Mail or drop off donations at any Home Federal Bank location
