MADISONVILLE (WATE) – The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is searching Starr Mountain for stolen property.

The area is so rugged the search is best done with a plane.

A few days ago, detectives tracked down a stolen four-wheeler there. They now believe there's more stolen property hidden in that area. They invited 6 News to ride along during the search.

The person doing the search was Chief Deputy Bryan Graves. He was in his own personal aircraft and is flying on his own time. He takes on these missions to help out his department.

"I've had different planes over the years and we've used them for searching for lost persons to flying over drug deals," said Chief Deputy Graves. "We may see something, we may not."

Chief Deputy Graves flew over the area for a while, carefully looking over the mountain, but not seeing much.

Still, it was one way to sweep the area. Certainly, this investigation isn't over yet.

"This is hopefully the best way to canvas a large area in the least amount of time," he said.

Graves foots the bills for these searches himself, not the county.

With this option eliminated, detectives will work other leads in the case. They'll head back to the area later, to see what they can find.
