75 Tennova office staff to lose jobs in October

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Seventy-five office workers in the Knoxville service center for Tennova hospitals were told Friday they will lose their jobs in October.

The healthcare provider's parent company, Health Management Associates, told workers the company was consolidating some of the office functions to a center in Arkansas.

Knoxville employees are being offered an opportunity to relocate to service centers in Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina and Mississippi, or apply for positions in Tennova hospitals.

The company said the layoffs were the result of efforts to improve efficiencies, as well as a response to upcoming changes from implementation of the Affordable Healthcare Act.

The Knoxville Service Center is located at 900 East Oak Hill Ave.

Health Management Associates operates several healthcare facilities in East Tennessee under the name Tennova, including hospitals in Knoxville, Jefferson City, LaFollette and Newport.

Tennova was the name give to Mercy Health Partners when it was purchased by HMA in October 2011. Mercy Health Partners was formed with the merger of Baptist Health System and Mercy Health System in August 2007

Community Health Systems, based in Franklin, Tenn., announced last month it plans to buy Health Management Associates for about $3.9 billion.
