Oak Ridge woman pleads guilty for incident that injured baby

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - An Oak Ridge woman pleaded guilty Thursday to a reduced charge related to a domestic dispute that resulted in an infant being kicked in the head.

Melissa Darnell Shillings, 35, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment. She was given an 11-month, 29-day jail sentence, with credit for 33 days already spent in jail.

Shillings and David Francis were accused of getting into a fight last month in their Wainwright Road.

Police say Shillings was holding the seven-month-old baby when the couple fought, resulting in the baby being kicked.

The baby was taken to East Tennessee Children's Hospital for treatment.
