ATHENS (WATE) - The driver of a porta-potty truck is accused of dumping raw sewage near the Hiwassee River in McMinn County.

The alleged dumping happened on Saturday, August 10, near a boat access to the river.

A man and woman who were looking for a place to fish discovered the truck dumping sewage in a ditch near the river bank. They snapped a picture of the truck and reported the dumping to authorities.

Michael Calhoun was later stopped while driving a truck that matched the description the couple had given to authorities. He was arrested for driving on a revoked license and cited for vandalism.

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation says the sewage did not reach the river.

The state says the company Calhoun worked for, BCS Portables, returned to the site and cleaned up the mess.
