MARYVILLE (WATE) - Hundreds of East Tennesseans are getting the medical care they need for free this weekend.

Remote Area Medical is hosting the event at the Heritage High School in Blount County.

On Saturday, volunteer doctors from around the area gave free dental, vision and general health care to those who can't afford to pay.

Some patients showed up Friday afternoon and waited all night to get help.

One patient, Bobbie Jean Sharp, said it was worth the wait.

"I got up at 3 o'clock this morning. I got here at about 5:15, and I was number 576. I got lucky. Me and this girl were sitting out there talking, and the guy she was with didn't want to come in for his eye exam, so she gave me the ticket, which brought me to 324," she said.

RAM said the majority of their patients are between the ages of 29 and 64.

The clinic will open again for the public Sunday at 6:00 a.m.

Organizers suggest arriving as early as 3:00 a.m. to get in line.
