ROGERSVILLE (WATE) - The trial for alleged murderer Ethan Self continued Monday with jurors watching a video of the defendant recalling what happened the night of his father's death.

Ethan Self is charged with first degree murder in the death of his father, Roger Self.

Roger Self was a sergeant in the Greeneville Police Department.

Defense Attorney Herb Moncier played a video for the jury on Monday.

The video shows psychologist Dr. Abraham Brietstein interviewing Ethan Self.

In it, Self says he took his father's gun into his bedroom only because he was afraid of him.

Self claims he was abused by his father for several years.

Self said he planned to tell his father he was moving to his grandmother's house and was afraid of how Roger Self would respond.

"I was going to tell him that I just wasn't happy with how he treated me," Self is shown saying in the recording. "And you know I never meant to hurt him."

The trial continues this week.
