Rockwood woman dies in wreck; driver faces multiple charges

ROCKWOOD (WATE) - A Rockwood woman died Monday night in a one-vehicle car wreck. he Tennessee Highway Patrol says alcohol was a factor.

The wreck happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of Eagle Furnace Road and Ledgerwood Lane.

According to THP's report, Johnny R. Foland, 50, of Rockwood, was driving his Chrysler Sebring westbound on Eagle Furnace Road when he lost control of the vehicle and overcorrected. 

The car began to rotate clockwise, hit a utility pole and then struck a tree. It landed on its top.

A passenger in the car, Teri L. Stephenson, 54, was killed in the wreck. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Another passenger, David W. Foland, 51, of Rockwood, was injured in the wreck. He was wearing a seat belt.

The driver, Johnny Foland, was not injured in the wreck, but troopers say he had alcohol in his system at the time of the crash.  He is being charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, DUI, driving on a revoked license, implied consent violation and leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality. 

Citations are also pending.
