Driver injured after striking tree in West Knoxville


KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man was seriously injured Tuesday morning when his car crashed into a tree on Middlebrook Pike in West Knoxville.

Knoxville Police Department spokesperson Darrell DeBusk says a 1998 Ford Explorer was traveling west near Weisgarber Road around 10:30 a.m. The truck went off the right side of the roadway striking a tree.

The male driver was taken to UT Medical Center with what are described as potentially life-threatening injuries.

A female passenger was not injured.

The passenger was wearing a seat belt, but officers are not sure if the driver was wearing his.

One lane of Middlebrook Pike was closed for approximately two hours while officers investigated the accident.

The names of the victims have not yet been released.
