MORRISTOWN (WATE) – The family of a woman strangled by her husband is speaking out.  Dotty and Barry Lee Arbaugh were married 33 years before Barry called Morristown Police saying he choked his wife during an argument.

Barry is now charged with second degree murder.

Dotty's family says they are in total shock. There were no obvious signs of turbulence in the marriage. Dotty's sister Dana Scott says that night they were arguing over money.

"She was really fun, kind, and spiritual," Dana said, describing her sister, who was 5'1", a mother, grandmother, paralegal, and a volunteer counselor. She tells us Barry, 6'5", was the quieter of the two.

"He was always the type who thought he should wear the pants in the family, and control the finances," she said.

To the extended family, the marriage seemed like many other couples who'd been together so long.

"I look at it now, and see a lot of things I didn't see before. I wasn't looking for it," Dana said showing us pictures of her sister, wondering if she had missed the warning signs.

Dana says the argument that night was over money, and her sister wanting to make a life change.

"She decided she wanted to go back to school to finish her education and get her bachelor's degree and he did not like that. He was more concerned about money and finances," she said.

The day Barry was booked into jail for second degree murder, he bonded out and went back to the couple's house. Something her family isn't happy about.

"He went to this extreme with my sister who was the mother of his children. We don't know what he's capable of next," she said.

The family is now left in shock.

"We're just walking around wondering when we're going to wake up," she said.

We did stop by the Arbaugh home. Barry was at the house and answered the door. We asked him if he wanted to give us his side of what happened. He said he'd rather not.
