KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville City Council passed an ordinance setting the certified tax rate on Tuesday evening.

Council members voted to bring the rate down from $2.46 to roughly $2.38 per $100 of assessed value.

It was the first reading of the ordinance.

In addition, the Knoxville City Council approved over $1,000 for the Odd Fellows Cemetery.

The site has been a part of the city's east side since 1880, but has become overgrown and rundown over the last several decades.

The historic cemetery recently saw newfound attention when hundreds of volunteers descended on it earlier this month, attempting to clean it up.

The money approved by the council will go towards the community group behind the effort to help cover some of the costs.
