Harlan sheriff reprimanded by ethics panel

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) - An ethics panel has issued a letter of reprimand to an eastern Kentucky sheriff.

The Harlan Daily Enterprise reports that the Cumberland Valley Area Development District ethics panel issued the reprimand to Harlan Sheriff Marvin Lipfird.

The panel held a hearing last month in London after Harlan County Judge-Executive Joe Grieshop and magistrates filed an ethics complaint over the purchase of a vehicle citing results from a state audit.

Lipfird testified during the hearing that he didn't know purchasing a vehicle from a worker's spouse was a possible ethics violation. He said he had no ethics training before the purchase was made.

He told the newspaper on Tuesday that he plans to put the episode behind him and move forward.
