KNOXVILLE (WATE) - University of Tennessee students headed back to class Wednesday, including more than 4,300 freshmen, which is the biggest class in nearly a decade.

To help all of these students transition back to school more quickly, UT officials have implemented the One Stop Express Student Service center.

The center is located inside the John C. Hodges Library on campus.

"One Stop is a one-stop shop for the most common enrollment services at the University of Tennessee," explained One Stop director Darren Curry. "We have combined the registrar, financial aid, and bursar front lines to one location because those services being so integrated already."

UT officials' main goal was to keep students from having to go to multiple places, and wait in long lines.

"I would say before having One Stop I would have to go to three different offices for three different needs," said UT senior Jackie Newman, "Sometimes it would be multiple times a day."

Another convenient thing about One Stop is that students will not have to wait around the library until their name is called because they will be paged with an email.

They also have large screens on the walls in the library letting students know when they are ready to see them.

Curry says wait times can vary depending on the time of day.

"They love that convenience aspect," said Curry.

"I would say One Stop is the best thing UT has done with their dollars in the past 30 years," added Newman.

UT invested $375,000 in adding One Stop to campus.

UT officials say this technology is very new to higher education, and it's part of becoming a top 25 institution.

One Stop is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
