KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A man was sent to the hospital Thursday night after being stabbed in the stomach.

The Knoxville Police Department says the fight happened just before 11:20 p.m. on the 2100 block of Vermont Avenue.

Police say when they arrived at the residence, Jennifer McElroy, 37, told officers her boyfriend, Carl Trentham, Jr., 56, had been drinking all evening with their neighbor.

She asked them to stop and then all three began arguing. McElroy asked James Rochester, 46, to go home.

As the argument escalated, police are told, Rochester brandished a knife and threatened to cut McElroy. Trentham then intervened and was stabbed in the upper abdomen.

KPD said Trentham was conscious and alert at the scene. He was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

Rochester was later located at his residence and taken into custody without incident. He is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault.
