KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A dedication ceremony was held Friday to name a road bridge in honor of a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper who died while on duty.

The bridge over Flat Creek on Longmire Road was dedicated to the memory of Trooper Michael Slagle.

Slagle died of natural causes in January after his patrol cruiser slid off Longmire Road during an ice storm. He was a 26-year veteran of the highway patrol.

Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett and members of the Knox County Commission attended the dedication ceremony.
