High-speed police pursuit with kids in car ends with 2 arrests

MAYNARDVILLE (WATE) - A man was arrested after leading police on a 100 mph chase through two counties Thursday afternoon, while four children were in his car.

The pursuit happened around 4:25 p.m. It started in Anderson County and ended in Union County.

The Anderson County Sheriff's Office notified the Union County Sheriff's Office that a Gray Pontiac Grand Am was fleeing from their deputies and was about to enter into Union County on Hickory Valley Road.

The chase continued on Hickory Valley Road, reaching speeds of over 100 mph.

Authorities were finally able to position themselves at various intersections in front of the fleeing vehicle to trap Fox.

The driver, Billy Ray Fox, of Corryton, was taken into custody at the intersection of Hickory Valley Road and Ridge Road. He was wanted in Anderson County for a burglary that had just occurred.

Heather Buchanan, 27, of Corryton, was also inside the vehicle. Four children, ranging from ages five to eight, were found inside the car.

The Department of Children Services took custody of the four children.

Fox faces the following charges: five counts of reckless endangerment, four counts of child endangerment , driving on a revoked license, felony evading, reckless driving at speeds over 100 mph, failure to yield to emergency equipment, failure to obey a traffic control device and violation of the child restraint law.
