KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett has approved the salary suit for the Knox County Trustee's Office, which totals roughly $73,000 less than the previous amount submitted under former Trustee John Duncan III.

Trustee Craig Leuthold told 6 News the county is saving more than $73,000 because he has eliminated an assistant collections administrator position and has not filled an office manager and staff accountant position.

Leuthold said there was also one resignation within the office that has not been replaced, leaving a total of four fewer salaries in the new salary suit.

Leuthold said there are currently 33 full-time positions in the office, not including the Trustee, and six seasonal positions.

Knox County Commission named Leuthold interim Trustee last month after Duncan III pleaded guilty to official misconduct and resigned as trustee.
