Justin Worley named as Vols starting quarterback

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Head Coach Butch Jones named Justin Worley as the Vols starting quarterback ahead of Saturday's season opener at Austin Peay at his first weekly press conference.

Jones said it was a tight race, but Worley was chosen because of productivity, and he'll continue to evaluate the situation.

"Justin is the alpha male. He's the leader. When things go wrong, all eyes will look at the quarterback. That's part of the job description," said Jones.

Worley had been competing with Nathan Peterman and freshmen Joshua Dobbs and Riley Ferguson for Tyler Bray's former position.

Jones also announced Corey Vereen, Jacques Smith and Riyahd Jones will be out this week.

The Vols take on Austin Peay Saturday Aug. 31 at 6 p.m. at Neyland Stadium.
