NEW MARKET (WATE) – A former New Market city employee is facing misconduct and theft charges.

TBI agents say 43-year-old Melissa Parker surrendered to them on Tuesday.

Parker is accused of overpaying herself and issuing checks for work that was never requested to be performed. Agents say the amount of the checks totaled over $25,000.

TBI says Parker also paid herself extra salary and benefits, which totaled over $13,000.

Parker is held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
