NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

A man was arrested for arson Tuesday morning after he allegedly tried to burn down the Ryman Auditorium earlier this month.

Police reported Jeffrey Parsley was seen on surveillance placing newspapers against the base of the backdoors of the historic venue on August 18.

Parsley then set the papers on fire and fled the scene on foot.

Surveillance showed the flames rising a few feet against the doors and lasting for several minutes, according to an affidavit.

Metro police and firemen responded to the scene and extinguished the flames.

Authorities said Parsley later admitted to being on the steps of the Ryman the night of the incident, and to lighting his lighter.

He was arrested and charged with felony arson.  He is being held in jail on $20,000 bond.
