KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The kick off to UT football season is just three days away. You could feel the excitement in the air Wednesday night as Coach Butch Jones talked to fans about the season.

"It's football time in Tennessee and we've changed that slogan a bit because it's always football season in Tennessee," Coach Jones said to a full house at Calhoun's.

Coach Jones sounded confident and ready tonight as he took questions from fans.

"Our team is ready, now it's trying to put on the last dress rehearsal, the last piece of preparation. That's the big thing. We're going through phases with this football team and this week is all about preparing to play winning football," Coach Jones explained.

It's no secret it's been a rough couple of years to be a Vol fan, but many say this year is going to be different.

"You couldn't have taken a more dead program and have this excitement we have out here right now," said fan Jim Stringham.

And fans say that's all because of Coach Butch Jones.

"He's got a great fan base pumped up, he's a great seller for our program, he's putting our image out there, he's showing that Tennessee orange has a value," said fan John Woodward.

The voice of the Vols Bob Kesling has been calling the games for more than a decade and he says you can feel the reawakening of the fan base.

"I think people are really excited, Butch has done a lot of good things, and pushed a lot of positive buttons so far during this preseason," Kesling explained.

While the fans may be cautiously optimistic, there's a sense of excitement that's been missing.

"It's going to be a long season, we're not going to win 10 games but we're building for the future," Stringham said.

Coach Butch Jones will join Bob Kesling every Wednesday for Vol Calls at Calhoun's as fans anxiously this new season and this new beginning.

"I think he's done a fabulous job of convincing everyone it really is brick by brick and it's going to take a while," Kesling explained. "But I think he's got the fans understanding at least they're on the right course and I think that's a positive."
