CLINTON (WATE) - A former Anderson County utility district chief who pleaded guilty to stealing from the district was sentenced to 10 days in jail Thursday as part of a plea deal.

Former Powell-Clinch Utility District chief Del Ray Roberts pleaded guilty to felony theft and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Roberts was sentenced to 10 days in jail, with nearly 10 years of supervised probation. Roberts has already paid restitution. He must also serve 40 hours of community service and contribute $10,000 to Project Assist, a program to help families get assistance with their utility bills.

An audit showed Roberts used public funds for personal expenses like a medical procedure and a cruise vacation.

PCUD fired Roberts after the allegations of misspent money came to light in 2009.

A second utility executive, Richard McIntosh, is scheduled to go to trial in October.
