KNOXVILLE (WATE) – People of faith gathered Thursday night in Krutch Park and prayed for Governor Haslam and other state leaders.

It was one of five vigils held across Tennessee.

The group wants an agreement to be made to protect rural hospitals, expand TennCare, and make sure everyone who needs healthcare gets it.

"It is not a political issue," said Rev. Dr. Valentino J. McNeal, from Mt. Olive Baptist Church. "It is a people issue because the Bible teaches us to take care of our brothers and sisters."

Haslam has said he's not too keen on the idea of expanding traditional Medicaid.

He's drafting a proposal to use funds from the Affordable Care Act to provide insurance subsidies.
