KUB warns customers of phone scam

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Utilities Board is warning customers about a phone scam in which customers are asked for their financial information.

KUB says several customers reported receiving phone calls from someone who claimed to be from the utility, saying they owed money on their accounts.

The caller also asked for financial information to make a payment, threatening to cut off the customer's power if payment wasn't made.

KUB says this is a scam.

"KUB never calls or e-mails asking for financial information, and we do not collect payments at homes or businesses," said Dale Grubbs, KUB Customer Service.

If there are questions about account status, or if you feel you are the target of a scam,
feel free to call KUB at (865) 524-2911.
