What Vol fans need to know before game day

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - It's a new coach and a new year at Neyland Stadium, and that also brings new rules.

The biggest changes this season are there are no backpacks of any kind allowed in the stadium. Large bags and coolers are also forbidden. Purses smaller than 12 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches are fine as long as they fit inside the boxes stationed outside each of the gates.

But there are also rules about what can be inside those bags:

  • No umbrellas
  • No alcohol
  • No weapons
  • No outside food

Timeline for Game Day

Kickoff for University of Tennessee's season opener against Austin Peay is at 6:07 p.m., but the festivities begin early.

For the first time, the Tennessee Tailgate, UT's official tailgate event, will take place in Circle Park.

Fans can start setting up for their tailgates between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday night, and there will be security onsite overnight.

The Vol Walk begins at 3:45 p.m. at the Torchbearer in Circle Park and continues down Peyton Manning Pass, before turning left on Phillip Fulmer Way into the stadium at Gate 21A.

Gates open at 4:00.

The UT band begins their march up Volunteer Boulevard at 4:20.

If fans want to avoid the crowds and watch the game at home, it will air on pay-per-view.

For Dish customers it will air on channel 461. For Direct TV customers, channel 785. On Comcast it will air on channel 726, and AT&T U-verse customers can catch the action on Channel 636.

It will cost between $25 and $35, depending on your provider
