CORRYTON (WATE) - Seven-year-old Seth Cate loves to put together Lego pieces with his mom and dad at home in Corryton, but there's more to this type of playtime than meets the eye.

These classic little toys are actually good physical therapy. Seth may look like a healthy little boy, but inside, his muscles are wasting away.

He has a genetic disorder called Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Seth was 5-years-old when his parents started noticing some changes, and that led to the diagnosis.

As Seth's mother Tammy Cate, recalls, "He wasn't running as fast as some of the other kids, getting up and down as easily."

After Tammy and Chris Cate dealt with the shock of what their son faces, they quickly called the local Muscular Dystrophy Association.

"They have the resources and the ability to help us," said Chris Cate.

Little did anyone know, part of those resources included just plain fun for Seth through the MDA's annual summer camp at the Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville, Ky.

At MDA camp, children with neuromuscular disease meet others sharing similar experiences. They just get to be kids, all with guidance from health care professionals and trained volunteers.

"He was more excited than we were when we dropped him off, and he said 'OK, when are you leaving?'" Tammy laughs.

Seth got to go horseback riding, goof around with new friends, make a mess and show off his creative side.

Seth even got to go to a dance with his camp counselors by his side. It was a week to remember.

Camp is made possible by community support, which is something Seth knows, even at his young age.

"Thank you for supporting MDA," said Seth.

The MDA Telethon is Sunday, Sept. 1 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on WATE/ABC.
