Sevierville man killed in Sevier Co. crash, driver facing charges

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – A Sevierville man is dead after a two-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Troopers said it happened around 1:15 p.m. on Chapman Highway at the intersection of Shiloh Church Road.

56-year-old Stephen Wandell, of Knoxville, was traveling south on Chapman Highway in the left lane, while 55-year-old Bryan Owen, of Sevierville, was driving his motorcycle northbound on Chapman Highway in the left lane.

Wandell attempted to stop his car in order to avoid hitting a third vehicle, but he lost control and slid in a counter-clockwise rotation.  His car then crossed the center line and struck Owen.

Owen was killed in the crash, and Wandell was injured.

Wandell is facing criminal charges.
