Men plead not guilty to moonshine manufacturing charges

GREENEVILLE (WATE) - Three men have plead not guilty to charges of illegally manufacturing moonshine.

The indictment was unsealed on August 26, when Jack Mayfield Jr., Michael Reece, and James Hickman made their first appearances in federal court.

Prosecutors say the men illegally distilled spirits from mash and other material.

Mayfield also faces several weapons charges, alleging he was in possession of at least two M1 rifles, along with an M1 pistol.

The men plead not guilty to all charges.

The case is being heard by a U.S. magistrate in Greeneville, but the indictment does not state where in the region the moonshine was being made.
