ALCOA (WATE) – Police are releasing video of a knife-wielding suspect in the hopes of bringing him to justice.

They say the man approached the front desk clerk America's Best Value Inn, 2450 Alcoa Highway in Alcoa just after 10 p.m. Friday.

The video shows the suspect lifting up his shirt and pulling out a large knife that looks much like a butcher's knife. The suspect then threatens the front desk clerk with it.

"She commented that it was the largest knife she's seen. That's when he approached her and pushed her to the cash register with the knife in hand," Alcoa Police Department Det. Kris Sanders said.

Investigators say the man had done his homework before he made his move.

"He paces back and forth in the parking lot for about 20 minutes," Det. Sanders said.

He then went in to ask about room rates.

"She quotes him a price and he says, 'That's too much.' So she refers him to a hotel down the street," Sanders explains.

After some back and forth, the suspect gets aggressive, forcing her to the register. He takes the money and leaves.

"As he leaves, he insists to her not to call the police until he's out of there. He says wait so many minutes 'or I'll be back to find you,' is what he tells her," Sanders said.

Eventually the clerk picks up the phone and calls 911.

Investigators believe getting the surveillance video out will help them catch the suspect.

Alcoa police got a vehicle description. The suspect was seen leaving in a smaller-sized pickup truck, a Ford Ranger Splash edition. It may be blue in color. The passenger-side taillight is not working.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Alcoa Police Department at (865) 380-4964.
