KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A request to the State Board of Education to shift nearly $4 million in funding to a new career and technical education magnet school was discussed Tuesday by the Knox County School Board.

Knox County is working to open that school next August at Pellissippi State Community College's Strawberry Plains campus.

The board wants to shift the money from a project to renovate Pond Gap Elementary School.

Superintendent Dr. Jim McIntyre says the money would be returned to the Pond Gap project by 2015.

"What that does is it allows us to do both projects on the same time frame we've always wanted to do and it won't delay the Pond Gap project," he said. "It won't have any negative effect on the Pond Gap project, but it allows us to move forward with the career academy at Pellissippi State."

Also under discussion was new language in the school system's cyber-bulling policy.

The wording says school employees, students or volunteers who witness or have reliable information about a threat sent through an electronic device are to report that information to the principal.

Board members questioned the specific language, especially how it would be enforced.

The school system already has a cyber-bullying policy requiring teachers to report allegations.
