Vols Devrin Young out 4-6 weeks with broken hand

KNXOVILLE (WATE) - Vols receiver Devrin Young will miss 4-6 weeks after suffering a broken hand at practice said head coach Butch Jones on his weekly radio show appearance Wednesday night.

Jones made his comments on Vol Calls.

Young caught his first touchdown pass on Saturday against Austin Peay, a nine-yard lob from quarterback Justin Worley that gave the Vols a 21-0 lead.

Young caught three passes playing the slot receiver position.

On Wednesday after practice, Vols offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian was asked about which player might move to Young's position against Western Kentucky this weekend.

"We talk to all of our guys about just being ready to play and preparing every day as if you're going to be a starter," said Bajakian.

"It's no different from the group you saw last Saturday no different from the group that's out there practicing every day. Obviously at that slot position, Alton Howard, we're expecting him to be a playmaker. Jonathan Johnson got some good snaps last Saturday and he should fill in pretty well."

More concerning is filling Young's role on special teams.

In the season opener, the Bearden High School graduate returned two punts for 21 yards and one kickoff for 58 yards.
