KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville city staff are taking steps to have an abandoned house in an upscale Knoxville neighborhood torn down.

A portion of the home at 515 Scenic Dr. near Kingston Pike in Sequoyah Hills collapsed Wednesday afternoon.

Knoxville Director of Public Service David Brace says an inspector examined the house Thursday morning and his office has taken out an emergency repair or demolition order on the house.

The first step from the order will be for the city to communicate with owners of the home to fix or demolish it.

A hearing will be held at the end of the month to determined what steps will be taken next.

The home has been vacant for the past few years.

No one was inside the house when it collapse, but neighbors say vagrants have been seen there.
