An alleged kidnapper is in custody, two weeks after he reportedly held a woman against her will and then ran over her with his vehicle when she tried to escape.
Charles Huddleston Jr. was arrested shortly after Midnight Friday.
According to the arrest warrant, the 44-year-old suspect offered a ride to the woman near Dr. D.B. Todd Jr. Boulevard and Underwood Street in the early morning hours of August 24.
She reportedly asked him to take her to her home on Jefferson Street, but instead he began heading north at a high rate of speed and in disregard for traffic signals.
The woman told police she asked to be let out of the vehicle, to which Huddleston responded, "I'll take you wherever I want."
She claimed his driving became so erratic, she jumped from the vehicle near the Kroger located at 3930 Clarksville Pike.
After hitting the ground and momentarily losing consciousness, the victim said she got up to retrieve her shoe. At that time, Huddleston allegedly circled back and struck her with the front of his truck, causing her to fall under the vehicle.
According to the warrant, the woman was able to get to the grocery store gas pumps a short distance away.
Police said Huddleston circled the lot in an attempt to coax the woman back to his truck but eventually drove away.
The victim suffered abrasions to her arms, back and legs. She chipped four teeth and lost two others during the incident.
Huddleston was charged Friday morning with especially aggravated kidnapping and attempted criminal homicide. He is being held on a $350,000 bond.
Police records show Huddleston has a lengthy criminal history dating back to 1990. Most recently, he was arrested the same day as the aforementioned incident for a third DUI offense near Deerfield Drive. An officer stopped him because his vehicle matched the description of a truck used in a robbery.
At that time, no connection was made between Huddleston and the kidnapping.
