'Sharks' to swim Little Pigeon River for charity

GATLINBURG (WATE) - The Great Gatlinburg Shark Race is returning with a chance to win a Polaris ATV.

Tickets are on sale for the charity event, which is scheduled for September 21. Tickets are $10 each.

For each ticket, a rubber shark will be dropped into the Little Pigeon River in front of Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies around 3 p.m. The first shark to cross the finish line determines who wins the ATV.

Many other prizes are also up for grabs. In all, about $21,000 in prizes will be awarded.

Funds raised from the event will benefit Cherish the Child Foundation, a non-profit that provides financial assistance for the Smoky Mountains Children's Home.

WATE 6 is a sponsor of the event. Other sponsors include Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, Food City, Wal-Mart, Mountain MotorSports, Ogle Furniture Outlet, Gatlinburg Sky Lift, Wilderness of the Smokies, Hard Rock Café, The Mountain Press, The Knoxville News Sentinel, WJBZ Praise 96.3, The Island, Ole Smoky Tennessee Moonshine, Larry & Nancy Adams, Thomas Conway, M.D. and All Occasion Party Rentals.
