NEWPORT (WATE) - Two men have been arrested who are accused of robbing a Newport bank the day after Christmas last year.

Brandy Joe Charles, 39, was arrested in Texas, while Anthony Robert Clifton, 22, was arrested in North Carolina. Neither are Tennessee residents.

Newport police chief Maurice Shults says the pair robbed the Tennessee State Bank, 107 Epley Road, on Dec. 26, 2012.

Authorities said the two men took an undisclosed amount of cash before being confronted by a Newport Police Officer.

Upon leaving the bank, the suspects came out and held the officer at gunpoint. The men also demanded the officers' service weapon, which Shults said the officer surrendered.

No one was injured in the robbery.

Both Charles and Clifton are charged with bank robber, aiding and abetting, and using a firearm in commission of a violent crime.
