KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Salvation Army volunteers are preparing for the worst so they can be ready to help at a moment's notice. The 14 volunteers are in the middle of disaster training.

Over the past three days, they're learned how to respond to natural and man-made disasters like terror attacks.

The volunteers have learned a number of skills including how to provide emotional support, food services and how to coordinate a large response.

Salvation Army officials say the goal is to be prepared so they can offer immediate assistance.

"Since we're training first, we already know what to expect so that as soon as some kind of crisis hits, we're already ready to go. We already have our act together. We can jump right on in to get ready to help," said Sgt. Jared Martin.

An additional 30 volunteers have already gone through the disaster training.
