KODAK (WATE) - The man who drowned Wednesday while swimming with friends in Douglas Lake has been identified as Elijah James Dixon, 20, of Sevierville.

Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals says they received a call from one of Dixon's friends around 1:47 p.m. stating someone had drowned at a cove on Dyke Road.

Witnesses say Dixon was trying to swim across the cove, becoming exhausted and unable to make it to the other side.

His friends tried to rescue him, but were unable to do so.

Rescuers and law enforcement responded and attempted to rescue Dixon. His body was located around 4:15 p.m. in approximately 4 feet of water.
