KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Members of the Knoxville Opera are pleading for the public's help saying they are in desperate need of space after the warehouse where they keep all their props and sets was sold.

The current warehouse is located on Harriet Tubman Street. Opera members found out Wednesday that this 5,000 square feet space had been sold, and they have to be out in 30 days.

"We are in a bind," said Knoxville Opera executive director and conductor Brian Salesky. "It's an emergency. We have to find a new home for all our sets and props right away."

The space was donated to the opera in 2011. They had no idea it was up for sale.

They currently do not have money in their budget for a new space, so they are looking for someone to donate a space for an extended amount of time.

Opera members say very high ceilings are a necessity in a new storage facility because several of their props and sets are very tall.

"The largest set we have in there is one we purchased a couple of years ago," said Salesky. "It's a massive set of platforms and columns. There are six huge columns that are approximately 22 to 24 feet high."

Opera members are hoping to find a space near their office at 612 East Depot Street.

"I would like them to know that Knoxville Opera is very conscious in the way it uses all the resources that are so generously contributed to the opera," said Knoxville Opera executive assistant Michelle Fratus. "The reason we need the storage facility because we reuse so many aspects of our set and props, so we don't have to keep spending money."

Opera members say they hope they find something soon because it will take several days to move everything out of the current space and into a new location.

Salesky says if they can not find a new storage facility in time they will have to dip into their reserve fund. This would only be a temporary fix, and may hurt future performances in the future.

If you have a large storage facility the Knoxville Opera can use, you are asked to contact their main office at (865) 524-0795.
