MARYVILLE (WATE) – A cashier slammed the cash drawer shut Sunday night to thwart a man's attempt to rob a convenience store.

Blount County deputies say they were called to the Foothills Market on Montvale Road in Maryville around 5 p.m.

Store employees said the man came into the store and demanded money, but when he did not get any he ran away.

On his way out, deputies say he waved a gun at a clerk outside the store.

The suspect is a white man between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8. He weighs between 160 and 200 pounds.

Witnesses say he had light brown hair, an unshaven face, and a moustache.

He was wearing sunglasses, a navy blue t-shirt, camouflage cargo shorts, and a tan baseball cap.

If you have information you can call the Blount County Crime Hotline at (865) 273-5200.
